More than one year after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, is working with partners to deliver reproductive health services across Ukraine including in areas close to the front lines and in neighbouring countries, and to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. Over a third of all births in Ukraine in 2022 – some 68,500 – were delivered at one of the 51 maternity facilities supported by UNFPA.

In February 2023, UNFPA and partners:

  • Reached almost 6,600 people with counselling, specialised mental health sessions and psychological support
  • Delivered 20 new ambulances with state-of-the-art medical equipment to the healthcare system of the Republic of Moldova.
  • Provided services at 49 UNFPA safe spaces and women-friendly spaces for Ukrainians still living in their communities, those who are displaced to other communities, and those who have left Ukraine for Moldova.
  • Distributed over 3,000 dignity kits to women and girls ensuring access to menstrual and hygiene items and warm clothing.
