The number of Ukrainian refugees has increased slightly to over 6.47 million, with 92 percent in Europe. Within Ukraine, an estimated 3.7 million people are internally displaced, and 5.56 million have returned, facing challenges such as limited access to income, family separation, and insecurity. About 7.8 million people need health assistance, and 11.5 million need protection services, including 2.5 million for gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response.
The escalation of violence has worsened existing GBV risks and created new ones, including conflict-related sexual violence and risks of sexual exploitation in refugee-hosting countries. Hostilities, including attacks on civilians and infrastructure, continue to cause widespread damage and obstruct humanitarian efforts across Ukraine.
In the reporting period, over 224,400 individuals, including women, girls, men, boys, older persons, youth, and people with disabilities, received tailored prevention, mitigation, and life-saving response services for GBV, while 33,400 people accessed sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services. Fourteen new service delivery points (SDPs) began operating across Ukraine, providing specialized GBV assistance and increasing the total number of UNFPA-supported SDPs to 130. In Moldova, several initiatives supported youth and older persons, including the opening of the first Active Aging Center and the establishment of a new UNFPA mobile clinic to address healthcare barriers for adolescents and youth.
