Cameroon faces security tensions, violence, and displacement, especially in the Northwest (NW) and Southwest (SW) regions. Despite the volatile and complex crisis, UNFPA provides sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services to vulnerable women and girls in humanitarian hotspots. In May 2024, UNFPA supported the following:
3 additional Women’s and Girls' Safe Spaces were opened
350 women participated in psychosocial support activities
1,409 individuals attended awareness sessions on GBV services
52% of GBV case managed cases were closed in May
370 military personnel were trained on protection from GBV
35 midwives deployed to 21 UNFPA-supported facilities
167 women and girls benefited from Inter-Agency Reproductive Health (IARH) kits and 65 baby boxes distributed
6 awareness-raising sessions on SRH organized, reaching 1,700 people
735 women with at least 2 antenatal care (ANC) visits were seen, 1,358 deliveries and 62 cesarean sections performed, and 143 obstetric emergencies referred
4 cases of maternal death recorded, and 18 cases of neonatal deaths recorded, of which 2 were audited
764 cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) diagnosed and treated
80 women received life-saving post-abortion care
1,281 consultations and hospitalizations recorded at UNFPA-supported health facilities
65 women received baby boxes in the Far North region
100 women and girls in the SW region received dignity and menstrual hygiene kits
65 women received baby boxes, contributing to their postnatal psychosocial well-being
350 women and girls benefitted from structured and unstructured psychosocial group activities
