Heavy rains have caused destruction and displacement in Yemen, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. Sa’ada Al Hodeidah, Al Mahwit, Raymah and Taizz governorates are among the hardest hit areas. Emergency relief items, including food assistance, non-food items, water and sanitation, clothing, as well as medical supplies to ensure the continuity of health care services, are urgently needed.

The UNFPA-led Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) has stepped up its response, delivering life- saving aid to the most vulnerable individuals. By 8 August, 1,560 families (10,920 individuals) in Al Hodeidah, Al Mahwit and Raymah had received emergency relief through the RRM, including essential hygiene items, such as soap, towels, and food, which offer some immediate relief from the hardships caused by these catastrophic events.

Damaged roads, the erosion of landmines and unexploded ordnance from frontline to civilian areas as well as a shortage of certain items included in the RRM are causing challenges for the humanitarian response.
