In Yemen, heavy seasonal rains have worsened the humanitarian crisis already exacerbated by over nine years of conflict, displacing over 500,000 people since July 2024. Damage to critical infrastructure, including in Al Hodeidah and Ras Issa, and attacks across the Middle East, have further strained the country’s fragile situation. UNFPA has been actively responding, reaching more than 1.6 million people since January 2024 with life-saving reproductive healthcare, protection services, and emergency relief. Support has been provided to 121 health facilities, 37 safe spaces, nine shelters, and seven specialized mental health centres.
To address the growing needs, UNFPA has deployed mobile clinics to provide integrated reproductive health services, including maternal care, to remote and underserved areas. Essential supplies have been delivered to health facilities, and midwives have been trained and supported to continue offering critical services. In addition, UNFPA has assisted nearly 23,000 women with gender-based violence services and continues to support safe spaces and shelters for survivors.
UNFPA’s appeal for US$ 70 million to maintain its support for women and girls in Yemen in 2024 is currently 69 percent funded.
