Equity 2030 Alliance
The world is not designed for women – let’s redesign the world.
Our world of 8 billion people presents a unique window of opportunity to empower women and girls in all their diversity – and to create a world of equal opportunities, ensuring that everyone can exercise their rights and choices and realize their full potential.
A substantial body of evidence suggests that the design and development of science, technology and financial solutions are often lacking in gender equity across industries, including in health care, well-being and education. The lack of women’s inclusion results in gender-blind products and in a gap in women-centric solutions.
In a world where technology and science have the power to shape our future, we must ensure that women and girls in all their diversity are not only statistically visible, but will also be actively included in the design and development of solutions.
An equitable future can only be achieved if advances in science and technology include and address the needs of all.
We must be Equitable by Design.
Science
Excluding women from clinical trials has resulted in delayed diagnostics for women – on average by four years longer than for men in more than 700 diseases. For every one woman diagnosed with a women’s health-related condition, roughly four go undiagnosed.

Technology
Eighty five per cent of artificial-intelligence projects are estimated to be biased due to data, algorithms or the teams responsible for managing them. Biased systems are not simply inconvenient; more than 60 per cent of biased systems result in unfair allocation of resources, information and opportunities for women.

Financing
An underlying root cause: lack of financing.
Only 1 per cent of the global health-care research and innovation funds are invested in female-specific conditions beyond oncology.

Together, we can change this.
The Equity 2030 Alliance seeks to accelerate actions to normalize gender equity* in science and technology by introducing data-driven arguments and strategies.
We believe our joint actions will lead to an inclusive, sustainable and gender-equitable future, where women’s and girl's voices are heard, their needs are met and their potential is fulfilled.
*Gender equity is the process of being fair to women and men. To ensure fairness, strategies and measures must often be available to compensate for women’s historical and social disadvantages that prevent women and men from otherwise operating on a level playing field. Equity leads to equality.
