Central African Republic Situation Report #10 - October 2024

Resource date: Dec 2024

Author: UNFPA CAR

EN

The humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR) remains critical, driven by ongoing conflict, displacement, food insecurity, and recent floods that have disproportionately impacted women and girls. Over 31,000 people have been severely affected by flooding, with women and girls facing heightened risks of gender-based violence (GBV) and limited access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Additionally, the influx of Sudanese refugees and the high number of internally displaced persons have strained resources, exacerbating vulnerabilities and increasing the prevalence of violence against women and girls.

In response, UNFPA has reached over 21,000 people with GBV prevention, mitigation, and response activities and provided SRH services to more than 9,500 individuals. Dignity kits were distributed to 1,950 women and girls, including GBV survivors and those in vulnerable situations, while 1,602 GBV survivors received psychosocial support, and 212 received medical care. UNFPA also deployed 11 mobile clinics to deliver critical SRH services in remote areas and supported 16 health facilities. Additionally, UNFPA ensured women’s and girls’ needs were integrated into the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan.

UNFPA is appealing for $19.3 million to sustain its humanitarian response in CAR for 2024. However, as of October, only $10.2 million has been received, leaving a funding gap of $9 million. This shortfall threatens the ability to expand lifesaving services and meet the growing needs of women and girls in this complex crisis. UNFPA continues to urge increased international support to bridge this gap and uphold the rights, health, and dignity of those most affected.
